We will support the Uttlesford Food Bank with food see uttlesford. The Harvest lunch donations will go to Vaccinaid. Thank you to everyone who came to our recent Flower Festival. It was a throughlyly enjoyable event. The flowers were magnificent, the food delicious and the music set the right tone for an afternoon in the countryside.
Visitors supported the stalls. There was much chat as friends and neighbours re-established friendships after the Covid lockdown. As I write in early August, gathering the harvest has just begun, at least in some fields round about here and between the thunderstorms.
Our society is much more globally integrated than it ever used to be. We delight in all year availability of salad crops and tropical Love in wimbish as well as products and services from all around the world.
Never have we been so aware of this than in this time of pandemic when supplies of PPE and vaccines have been critical. There was also the glitch in the supply chain in March this year when the ship Ever Given ran aground in the Suez Canal and our container ports became choked with the back log. We really ought to be grateful for the intricate supply chain that for much of the time works faultlessly in the background to supply not just our needs but our wants too. All workers in the food supply chain were correctly called key workers.
You would be welcome to us in our Flower Festival or Harvest celebrations this year details elsewhere in the magazine where we trust we will be able to sing our favourite songs.
I wonder what yours is? Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. It includes thanks for Love in wimbish harvest in our fields of course, but also for food from around the world, for the mined resources of the earth and for the innovation and skill of humankind.
Here are the words of verse 4. Praise God for the harvest of science and skill The urge to discover create and fulfil For all new inventions that promise to gain A future more hopeful a world more humane. Do us for our Flower and Harvest Festivals this year. We will give thanks for many things, including our food harvest, but also for the work of those who have helped us during this time of pandemic, the words from verse four being particularly apt.
I pray this harvest in particular is gathered where it is needed and that we may all help to bring it home.
Best wishes. Revd John Saxon. Psalm The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom then shall I fear? Psalm Be joyful in God, all the earth; sing the glory of his name; sing the glory of his praise.
