Our free online classes are built to help students prepare to successfully earn a high school equivalency diploma HiSET, formerly the GED and transition to college and career pathways.
These classes are delivered entirely online. After attending testing and orientation at our Lafayette Campus everything else can be done anywhere with an internet connection. You can study and complete your coursework on your own schedule. All you need is a computer with internet access and the ability to manage your time effectively. Online classes are a great opportunity to set your own schedule and drive your own education forward.

After finishing the placement tests, eLearn students can complete all coursework online in reading, writing, math, and digital literacy.
As stated, instead of having to commute to campus at specific times, you can complete your studies at home and on your own schedule. All you have to do is complete weekly requirements in order to remain in good standing with the program. This means you can study early in the morning, late at night, on weekends, or whenever is convenient for you!
Registration, testing, and the online classes are all free just like all Adult Education programs! But, we understand that you are busy with work and family and life.
So, we require that students commit to hours of online studying per week. Remember, you can do this anytime and anywhere. Since all of the coursework can be completed online, you can decide when and where you study and as long as you have a computer with internet access, you are always ready to connect!
While there will be many ways to connect to our online classes using a mobile device, you will also need a computer laptop or desktop with internet access in order to complete some of the math and writing coursework. Therefore, the eLearn program can only admit students with a full computer and internet access. All applications will be processed through this. Once your application is received, you will receive additional details on how to finalize your application via. If accepted, you will receive an with details about when you will need to attend an in-person registration and orientation session at SLCC's Lafayette campus so make sure you submit an address that you check regularly.
The orientation session will help you become familiar with the online resources that are available to you, and it will also allow you to complete a pre-test. Once you complete the registration and orientation session, you will be able to complete the rest of the coursework online! The internet is loaded with various resources to help you build your reading, writing, and math skills.
In eLearn, we use lots of those resources, including articles, videos, audio files, games, interactive lessons, and discussion boards to keep you connected with and learning alongside your classmates. In addition to your online classes, we will also pair you with a coach who is available to help you succeed online.
Your eLearn coach will work with you to set goals, work on time management, and share resources to help you be successful! Your eLearn coach will help you develop this project and its goals. You will actually be enrolled in a course with other students and an instructor that you can contact as needed. You will be able to chat and with your fellow classmates, and your instructor will always be available by chat,phone, and video conferencing! And, your instructor and coach will be checking in with you on a regular basis to help you stay focused and motivated.
So, even though the courses are online, you will have a lot of support available to you including your classmates and our eLearn instructors and coaches! This question is tough to answer since every student is unique, and it also depends on how much effort you put forth. You will have a better idea of how ready you are to take the HiSET exam once you complete the placement testing process.

We are now offering Basic Digital Literacy classes! Unlike our online adult education classes, digital literacy classes will be held in person at all SLCC campus locations. These in-person classes will be held once a week within a four-week period covering a range of digital literacy skills such as computer basic skills, internet basics, using andand more!
